A small, timely Deepavali cash token brought smiles to residents of the Taman Desa Ria and Taman Desa Mentari low-cost flats in Petaling Jaya.
The Deepavali money packets were presented by the DesaRia Utara MIC branch (Kelana Jaya division) two days before Deepavali on Oct 27.

Branch chairman Datuk S.M. Muthu, who is also the Kelana Jaya MIC division vice-chairman, said the RM100 aid was given to 127 recipients this year.
“I have been carrying out this event yearly for the last 12 years,” he said, adding that he forked out his own money for the festive aid.
“These recipients are made up of the poor, single mothers, the underprivileged, old folks and the disabled,” he said.
Kelana Jaya MIC division chairman Sinnasamy Nadasan said while the recipients were identified through community leaders, many had actually come to seek help from their branch several times for monetary aid.
Special guest at the presentation ceremony was former Kelana Jaya MP Loh Seng Kok, now a member of the MCA central committee.
